I’ve always loved France.
My parents moved with me from Hamburg to Baden-Baden when I was a little child.
From Baden-Baden, it’s just a stone’s throw to the French Alsace region.
We often drove the 30 km to the other side of the Rhine to shop or eat in one of the numerous restaurants.
Escargots à la sauce à l’ail or Chateaubriand beef steak were the delicacies.
When it came time to decide which city I should go to for fashion photography, Paris was quickly my choice.
In April 1985, I moved into an attic apartment in an old 17th-century house in the 5th arrondissement, the Latin Quarter.
When my then-gallerist, Eric Landau, asked me in 2003 to do a series on the city of Paris, after the New York series, I focused not only the usual views of beautiful houses or wonderful parks, but also on the billboards of the many fashion brands that line the streets of the city.
It clearly reflects the eroticism and sensuality that this city exudes.
Beautiful houses and spectacular skylines can be found in many cities, but this thrilling, skin-tugging sensation can only be found in Paris, the city of love.
